Voted off the Island David Baker, tenor, Luke Hammond, lead, Mike Morgan, bass, Rich Hutchison, baritone
Voted off the Island was formed in February, 2000. The name has an interesting story. Originally, three of us worked for Sorenson Vision. We practiced at lunchtimes in the Sorenson building—for about 3 weeks, until Sorenson Vision shut down and the three of us were laid off. Since Rich Hutchison was the sole survivor, we chose the name Voted off the Island.
Voted off the Island had a chance to sing the national anthem at a Utah Jazz home game in mid-December. Check it out here.
Alas, another layoff has claimed the life of our fun little group. After Sorenson Vision shut down, Mike and I were hired by Ingeo, a Logan, Utah-based digital document company. Luke was also eventually hired. In July, 2002, Ingeo eliminated almost all of its marketing staff, leaving Mike and me jobless. I ended up taking a job in New Mexico, so we had to disband.
Competition:
Rocky Mountain District Regional Competition
This is our first and only time competing in a SPEBSQSA competition. We sang Wait 'Til the Sun Shines, Nellie and Since My Canary Died. Unfortunately, we had received some very bad advice from several sources about music choice. Turns out, Canary wasn't "barbershop" enough, and one of the music judges gave us a zero for that piece, killing our chances of making the top ten. It was still a great experience, and we all came away with a greater appreciation for barbershop and competition. |

Following are songs from Voted off the Island's first and only recording session. They're not bad, but they're not the greatest either. Download at your own risk!
