I've been involved with barbershop music for about 7 years now, and have been an active member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly SPEBSQSA) for four years. I've been lucky enough to have some great times, meet some great friends, improve my singing and performing skills.
Here is information about choruses, quartets, and barbershopping events I've been involved with:
- Equinox: my current quartet, consisting of Jim Case, Jim Zeigler, Tim Haskins, and some guy singing tenor.
- International Contest, Salt Lake City 2005: my first international contest, and I got to be onstage.
- Spirit of Phoenix: my current chorus in Phoenix—bigger and better than any chorus I've sung with to date.
- Valparaiso Masters of Harmony: my former chorus in Valparaiso, IN; I sang with them for less than a year, but was immensely rewarded by the experience.
- Harmony College 2004: I attended the directors' track of Harmony College/Directors College in 2004.
- Four Corners Harmony: my former chorus in Farmington, NM, where I served as chorus director.
- Voted off the Island: my first quartet, consisting of Luke Hammond, Rich Hutchison, Michael Morgan, and that same guy on tenor.
- Voted off the Island: sang the national anthem at a Utah Jazz game in December 2002.
- How I Got Started in Barbershop: just a few words about my introduction into the world of barbershop.
Some Barbershop Links
- The Barbershop Harmony Society: formerly The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). The Mother Ship. This organization, based in Kenosha, WI, has been instrumental in preserving this great American art form.
- A-Cappella.com: one of the greatest online resources for a cappella music and recordings.
- Primarily A Capella: another great place to buy music (both recorded and on paper).
- Men's Barbershop Quartet Arrangements: An index of printed music, a great reference for tracking down a specific song or arrangement.
- The Spirit of Phoenix: our chorus' extensive website, featuring one of the best chorus newsletters in the Society.
- The Harmonet: a Yahoo discussion list focusing on barbershop music.
