"Apple … operated on an entirely different concept, which was: A regular human could use it. You simply turned it on, and immediately, just like that, you could do stuff with it. … That's why, to this very day, Apple is not considered by us cyberwonks to be a serious computer. It is viewed as a computer that is popular mainly with your flaky or artsy-fartsy type of individual—your artist, your poet, your beatnik, your flower-arranger, your heroin addict. We serious users pride ourselves on wrestling with openly hostile computers that are running an operating system from the proud, incomprehensible Microsoft tradition."

The Mother Ship

Apple's Home Consistently rated as one of the cleanest, most functional "dot-corp" on the Web, this is the first place to go for all things Apple.

QuickTime's Home QuickTime, which provided the first true multimedia for personal computers, just turned 10 years old. Here's where to go for driver updates and news.

Apple's QuickTime Movie Trailers This is the most comprehensive collection of movie trailers (previews) anywhere online, and most of them are compressed using the Sorenson Video codec.

Mac Publications

MacAddict In my opinion, the best Mac magazine around. This is a periodical with an attitude. If you're a Mac junkie and don't subscibe, shame on you!

MacWorld Even though they take a more "buttoned down" approach to Macintosh information, they are well worth a visit. They've got the best reviews (fully searchable) around.

MacSlash I just discovered this site. It's a "block-stacking" news site similar to SlashDot, only with a purely Macintosh focus. Important daily reading.

MacHome Here's a more "home computing" approach to the Macintosh world. They often have very interesting articles

Mac Gaming One of the two best sites devoted to Mac gaming. Thus, the name.

Mac Gamer's Ledge The other site for information on games for the Mac. I had fun interviewing these guys at MacWorld 2001.

Other Resources

ResExcellence If you're looking for desktop patterns, desktop pictures, icons, startup screens, and all manner of GUI goodies, this is the place to begin.

The Icon Factory A great, continually updated resource for icons. They've got great links, too.

VersionTracker This site tracks the current versions of just about every software known to mankind. Enter a software title and see if you've got the latest version. If not, chances are they'll link you to an update.

LimeWire Not specifically Mac-centric, but this peer-to-peer file-swapping service is great. They've got a client for almost every OS out there.

MacAddict's OS X Links Page I recently installed Mac OS X on both my laptop and desktop machines. This is a great place to start for information on this cool "new" operating system.
